The proverb says, “If a fortunate event has already occurred twice a third fortunate event is likely to occur.” …so here we go Boston Marathon #128!
In 2017 I ran the famously fun 7 mile Falmouth road race to support Dana-Farber and breast cancer awareness. I did not realize then that I would never complete the race I was starting. After I crossed that finish line I knew that I needed to do more to fight the monster. I graduated to a half marathon, then my first full in 2019, and my second full in 2023, collectively raising almost $40,000 in honor of my childhood “sister-friend,” Meghan Faria Martin. At the start of this year I was accepted onto the Boston committee for The Pink Agenda, a nonprofit that finds, funds, and partners with people and programs that are improving the lives of those suffering from breast cancer and conducting the groundbreaking research necessary to improve their odds.
One of these programs is the work of Dr. Ann Partridge, founder and director of Dana-Farber Cancer Institute’s Young & Strong Program. Dr. Partridge’s research focuses on young women diagnosed with breast cancer under age 40, and the program works to improve their medical and psychosocial care and outcomes. Our heroic Meghan was a huge supporter of Young and Strong (organizing the best party of the year!) and Dr. Partridge, and felt blessed to have her as her doctor.
Every dollar donated will support Dr. Partridge’s efforts to optimize breast cancer survivorship care and research at DFCI, and help move these legs through the 26.2-mile journey to the consecrate blue and yellow line between Exeter and Dartmouth!
