I'm running for my son, Emmett, and for all the brave children who have battled, or will battle, cancer. While there are so many amazing close-to-market cures, surprisingly, pediatric cancer research is incredibly underfunded.
Emmett was diagnosed with a brain tumor in September 2018 at just three years old. The last few years have been a whirlwind of doctors, medicine, needles, IVs, scans and surgeries. While we are so fortunate that Emmett is still here with us today and recently celebrated his seventh birthday, we've seen far too many families who have lost their children to this terrible disease.
I use running to show Emmett that he will have to put one foot in front of the other and embrace the struggle. When it hurts so badly that I don't think I can go any further, I dig deep and find my grit. I use the struggle as fuel for the journey: be it his cancer journey or my 26.2 mile journey, we'll push to the finish line.
I hope you will join us on this journey and choose to take action and support all children and families who are impacted by pediatric cancer.
