The sweetest little man on the planet, my cousins' five-year-old son, Jonah, lost his fight with cancer on November 26, 2021. There are fewer people that deserve a chance at, and are excited and passionate for life the way a five-year-old child is, which is why it is so much more painful when they lose their chance at ever experiencing it. Jonah was just shy of his second birthday when he was diagnosed with a very rare pediatric brain tumor called ETMR (Embryonal Tumor with Multilayer Rosettes). Yet somehow, up until the end, Jonah was always smiling and enjoyed every last second of the beautiful life his mommies and his sister gave him. He fought valiantly alongside his medical team at Dana Farber. Jonah's tumor donation to Dr. Mariella Filbin's research lab at Dana Farber has led to groundbreaking research on his tumor type. His mother Suzy has informed me that there is no team out there that is leading the charge like Dana Farber in showing us hope through progress to ensure that one day, children with a prognosis like Jonah, and their families, might actually have hope for a beautiful and healthy future.
Days before Jonah's passing, Suzy promised him that she would run another Boston marathon in his honor, and it has inspired me to run alongside (but actually very far behind) her on April 17th, 2023, to honor Jonah and to fund further research on ETMR. During his treatment, Jonah lost the ability to walk and run, and according to Suzy, he often asked if he could "run like Sonic". On Patriot's Day we will "run like Sonic" from Hopkinton to Boston for Jonah. His legacy lives on in our hearts and at Dana Farber Cancer Institute. Please help us reach our fundraising goal. Thank you in advance for your support!
