On February 27, 2023, one of my daughter Susanna's oldest friends, Adelia the Wonder Girl, was diagnosed with an incurable brain tumor called Diffuse Midline Glioma. After fighting with all her might for 15 long months, Adelia succumbed to the disease on May 30, 2024. The impact that witnessing Adelia's battle first-hand has had on Susanna, our family and our entire community cannot be overstated.
This year I've join team Adelia the Wonder Girl to run to help find treatments and a cure for all the children fighting this disease. All fundraising efforts will be dedicated to a new and desperately needed Brain Tumor Center that bridges Dana Farber and Boston Children's Hospital. This center is being spearheaded by Dr. Baird, arguably the best pediatric neurosurgeon in the world, and Dr. Filbin, one of the most brilliant and motivated researchers in this space. This center strives to develop personalized, precision medicine, where they can deliver rapid real-time molecular analysis to allow more effective treatments to start sooner. The center will also be developing support systems for families, a vital necessity and currently a missing piece in providing high quality continuum of care. Click here for more information about the Brain Tumor Center.
On August 18, our team will run alongside hundreds of Dana-Farber runners in the 52nd running of the ASICS Falmouth Road Race! We are training to run 7-miles along Cape Cod’s scenic coastline, while raising critical funds that directly support Dana-Farber Cancer Institute patients and families, in New England and around the world.
Every mile and each donation, no matter the size, supports The Dana-Farber Campaign, the Institute’s ambitious, multi-year fundraising effort, focused on supporting revolutionary research, extraordinary care, exceptional expertise, and other priorities, to help Dana-Farber accomplish its mission of preventing, treating, and defying cancer.
Thank you for your support! Together, we are helping Dana-Farber race toward the ultimate finish line: a world without cancer.
