On August 18th, I will be running the Falmouth Road Race as a proud member of Team Adelia the Wonder Girl. Our goal is to raise funds for all children, including Adelia, who have been diagnosed with pediatric brain cancer.
Adelia is a friend and classmate of my daughter, Elle. In February 2023, 8-year-old Adelia was diagnosed with DMG (diffuse midline glioma), a rare and highly aggressive brain cancer. Since then, our incredible wonder girl has bravely faced five brain surgeries and 63 radiation treatments—challenges no child should ever have to endure. Despite these challenges, Adelia has continued to smile, attending school and activities with her friends to maintain as much normalcy as possible.
While there have been many advancements in cancer research, the harsh reality for children and their families dealing with pediatric brain tumors is that experimental clinical trials remain the only option for children like Adelia. We have to do better.
This year our team will be donating every dollar to the new Brain Tumor Center that will bridge Boston Children's Hospital and Dana Farber. This center will lead clinical trials, support ongoing research, and offer a crucial network for families who are facing this heart breaking diagnosis.
