After Christmas, my mom started complaining of a pain in her back. When it did not subside in a few weeks, she went to the emergency room. Seven weeks later, she died at home from pancreatic cancer.
When we originally found out her diagnosis, the first call we made was to Dana-Farber. Living in Boston, we knew they were our best chance to help my mom through this. Full of hope, we met with an amazing doctor at Brigham and Women’s Hospital as our gateway to my mom’s soon to be care team at Dana-Farber. Unfortunately, my mom’s health deteriorated very quickly after her initial appointment. Treatment through Dana-Farber shifted to comfort care until the end.
Even though my mom never made it through the doors of Dana-Farber, I fundamentally believe in the extraordinary efforts that everyone at Dana-Farber goes through to prevent, treat and defy cancer. Because of this, on August 18, I will be participating in the 52nd running of the ASICS Falmouth Road Race as a member of the Dana-Farber Team.
I am running in memory of my beautiful mom and will be raising critical funds that directly support Dana-Farber Cancer Institute patients and families, in New England and around the world.
Every mile and each donation, no matter the size, supports The Dana-Farber Campaign, the Institute’s ambitious, multi-year fundraising effort, focused on supporting revolutionary research, extraordinary care, exceptional expertise, and other priorities.
Thank you for your support! Together, we are helping Dana-Farber race toward the ultimate finish line: a world without cancer.
