I am participating in the 2022 Boston Marathon® Jimmy Fund Walk presented by Hyundai, taking steps toward the ultimate finish line: a world without cancer.
For those of you who don't know - I've been absent from Facebook for at least a year and a half - my daughter Madeleine was diagnosed with invasive ductal carcinoma last year at the age of 26. While it was a hellish year, we got through with the support of a close network of friends and family, and an incredibly supportive team of her incredible colleagues and the Mass General Brigham/ Dana Farber team. We consider ourselves to be very very lucky. Yes, Madeleine was lucky - she caught the tumor early herself - insisting on an ultrasound, when clinicians deemed her chance of cancer extremely remote. That ultra-sound lead to a mammogram, a biopsy and a diagnosis within 9 days from the onset of her breast pain. Bilateral surgery, IVF, and chemo followed and she got through every step with determination and a lot of love and humor. We are lucky, because her cancer was both treatable and curable. However, because of her young age, her treatment was and remains more aggressive than someone diagnosed with the same cancer and stage at 50+. I've been at her side at every moment where covid protocols permitted - and on facetime when they didn't, and I will always be with her, supporting her and counseling her as she navigates her continuing treatments. When she asked me to walk 13 miles with her in support of the young adults program at Dana Farber - it was a "hell yeah"; I'm more than thrilled to walk with her (she can coach me through the tough spots, rather than the other way around) and others, to make sure she never experiences this again, and so other young women and their families do not have to go through what we did.
When you make a gift to my Walk, you’re directly supporting Dana-Farber Cancer Institute’s unique 50-50 balance between cutting-edge research and compassionate patient care. Your support allows Dana-Farber leaders to enhance programs and initiatives that serve pediatric and adult patients and their families.
I've got just 9 days to reach my goal of $1500. Any support you can muster is a gift to all of us working to defy cancer!
Thank you for supporting my Jimmy Fund Walk fundraising efforts.
