I ran my first Boston back in 2004...19 years ago. I'm not blessed with speed, so the day was getting chilly and windy when I was making my way slowly and painfully up Heartbreak Hill.
My leg had locked up, I was out of gas, and I must have been the picture of misery on Comm. Ave.
An older spectator got off his folding chair -- what was he still waiting to see? -- and literally got in my face.
"Millions of people would give anything to be where you are right now," he told me.
He was right.
His words changed everything.
My leg unlocked, my pain vanished, and my misery was replaced with resolve.
And before too much time had passed, I reached the finish line on Boylston Street.
And I've been chasing that "high" ever since.
Please help me reach the finish line for the 10th time by donating generously to my run for Dana-Farber.
It's been my privilege to raise more than $200,000 for Dana-Cancer since 2004.
This year, my goal is $40,000 more.
One hundred percent of every dollar raised by the DFMC team supports the Claudia Adams Barr Program in Innovative Basic Cancer Research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. These funds are fueling some of today's most promising basic cancer research.
And whatever challenge you're facing right now, personal or professional, health-related or financial, remember that millions of people would give anything to be where you are right now.
Thank you for your support!
