WHY WE'RE FUNDRAISING WITH THE JIMMY FUND WALK TO FIGHT CANCER

Our research lab probes some of the most mysterious, difficult to study regions of our DNA to understand how these contribute to cancer biology. Our work is illuminating how these sequences may play key roles at the inception of cancer growth and shape how malignancies evade therapies and the body's natural defenses against cancer. We recognize the urgency of translating basic discoveries to the clinic, and we are using our knowledge to develop blood tests for early cancer detection and to find new therapeutic targets.

Our work is relevant to many cancer types, including many of the most widespread and difficult to treat forms of malignancy.

Our lab is a team of dedicated researchers - scientists and physician-scientists - who have come together at different stages in our careers and from all over the world to learn from each other and contribute our time and talents to this important effort. Many of us have loved ones whose lives have been threatened by or lost to the diseases we study.

We benefit immensely in our work by being part of the preeminent cancer research community assembled here at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. We collaborate with other labs everyday and lend our expertise wherever it is helpful.

Thank you for visiting this Giving Page to support cancer research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and the Jimmy Fund.

Donations are an important catalyst for discovery. Gifts enable us to conduce especially innovative, sometimes high-risk, high reward experiments, and allow us to move quickly on new ideas. Because of donors to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and the Jimmy Fund, we are learning new things everyday. Some of our attempts lead to a dead end. But others make new inroads of understanding. And these lay groundwork for more sustained efforts that engage collaborators and earn research funding by the federal government, other private non-profit organizations, and venture capital.

To contribute by check, please write "Dr. Kathleen Burns's Giving Page" in your memo line, and send to:
