I am participating in the 2021 Boston Marathon® Jimmy Fund Walk: Your Way, to raise funds for the Young-Onset Colorectal Cancer Center at Dana-Farber. After being diagnosed with Stage 3C colon cancer at the age of 34 in 2019, I went to Dana-Farber for treatment.
It is not hyperbole to say that Dana-Farber saved my life and they save the lives of others like me every single day. And while my story has so far had a happy ending, so many others don't. Colorectal cancers are expected to be the leading cause of cancer related death among people 20-49 by the year 2030. This is a problem that is getting worse, not better. Young people, many younger than me, are contracting colorectal cancers at higher rates each year. And worst of all, doctors still don't know what causes the disease.
Additionally, not everyone is as lucky as I was to have access to the kind of world-class care that Dana-Farber provides. The funds raised from this walk will allow others have access to the same care I received. They will also go to fund Dana-Farber's cutting-edge research into new treatments and cures that save lives and provide hope to so many.
Thank you so much for your support for this life-saving work. I am honored to walk alongside the heroes at Dana-Farber.
