This year on October 2nd I will be doing my 12th Jimmy Fund Walk. I plan to walk the 26.2 Boston Marathon course for the first time in 3 years as I had to walk virtually in my Orleans neighborhood the past 2 years due to Co-Vid. I will once again be walking as a member of Team Diane. This will likely be the final year of fundraising for Dr. Ursula Matalonis, who continues with her research on early detection and treatment of ovarian, endometrial and other female cancers.
I began walking with Team Diane after my dear college friend Maggie was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Sadly, Maggie lost her battle with cancer 6 years ago. Just a few months ago my neighbor Michelle had her ovarian cancer return in her lungs after having been in remission for nearly 5 years. She is currently in treatment with a Dana Farber doc and is hopeful that new treatments will be successful. It is my hope that with time and funding these cancers will be detected earlier and treated effectively.
When you make a gift to my Walk, you’re directly supporting Dana-Farber Cancer Institute’s unique 50-50 balance between cutting-edge research and compassionate patient care.
Thank you for supporting my Jimmy Fund Walk fundraising efforts. Together, we can defy cancer!
