As you all know, each year my family and I normally head back to Boston to walk the route of the Boston marathon to raise funds in support of the Jimmy Fund/ Dana Farber Cancer institute. Due to the pandemic, this will be the second year in which the in person walk has been replaced by a "Walk Your Way" virtual event. We will be logging miles during the month of October to ensure that we walk a total of at least 26.2 miles before the end of October. We've mapped out some fun walks around to Pacific Northwest to hit our goal!
The Jimmy Fund is looking for representation around the country for the virtual walk, and we were chosen as the family to represent Washington State! Click on Washington State in this map and you'll see a photo of our family during last year's walk.
Our team, In Memory of Will Kraft, was formed 18 years ago after I lost my oldest brother Will to a brain tumor at the age of 28. Five years later, Jonathan lost his brother Colin to leukemia at the age of 44. Cancer has clearly hit our family very personally. In addition to walking and raising funds funds to honor the memory of our brothers, we walk to honor all the other loved ones who are battling or have battled cancer. All funds that our team raises goes toward the Will Kraft Brain Tumor Research Fund run by Will's oncologist, Dr. Patrick Wen.
Here are some statistics from the 5 of us since we started walking the Jimmy Fund Walk:
63: Number of combined Jimmy Fund Walks (incl. this upcoming one) that Jonathan (15) ,Victoria (12), Caleb (10), Joshua (7) and I (19) have walked.
$87,000+: Amount of money that the 5 of us have personally raised.
$700,000+: Amount of money raised by team "In Memory of Will Kraft"
This year, I have set myself the goal of trying to raise $2,000 and our team is aiming to surpass $40,000 for the year. The kids are each aiming to raise $500. With your support, I know that we can achieve and surpass these goals and make an even bigger impact in the fight against cancer.
THANK YOU for your generous support and I hope that you are all staying safe and well.
