WHY WE'RE FUNDRAISING WITH THE JIMMY FUND WALK TO FIGHT CANCER

Thank you for visiting my Giving Page to support cancer research and care at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and the Jimmy Fund.

Dana-Farber provides expert, compassionate care to children and adults and is home to groundbreaking cancer discoveries. Since its founding in 1948, the Jimmy Fund has raised millions of dollars through thousands of community efforts to advance Dana-Farber’s mission.

Susan “Sue” M. Running, 73 of Duluth died Monday, Nov. 4th at Essentia, St. Mary’s after a long battle with cancer with her family by her side.  Sue was born Dec. 18, 1945 in Duluth to Don and Eda Dahl.  She was a Denfeld graduate, earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from UMD and her Masters of Education from the University of Wisconsin-Superior.  Sue retired in 2003 as a celebrated teacher for the Proctor School District’s elementary schools.  She was a proud member of the Italian American Club Auxiliary, the Pike Lake Girls Club, University for Seniors, Alpha Delta Kappa teachers’ sorority; and countless other communities.  While Susan felt at ease both traveling internationally and enjoying Lake Superior from her cozy apartment, her most content moments were visiting Don and Mary Jo and their dogs in Boston and spending time with her family - especially her granddaughter, Leah.  Sue was the mother, grandmother, friend, and teacher that everyone wanted.  She was kind, compassionate, forgiving, generous, sweet, selfless, and loving.  Sue will forever be in our hearts as someone to model our lives after.

She was preceded in death by her dad, Don Dahl, and nephew Jon Dahl.

Sue is survived by her sons, Marty (Erika) Running and their daughter Leah and Don (Mary Jo) Running; her mother, Eda Dahl and siblings, Peter (Sue) Dahl, Jon (Karen) Dahl and Kristine (Greg) Kaake and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Dr. Jonathan Sande for his extraordinary care and compassion that he provided to our mother.  Without his care she would not have been able to travel and embrace numerous ‘one mores.’ Additionally, we would like to thank all the wonderful staff at St. Mary’s Hospital 9 West unit.  They not only treated the patient, but also took care of the family. Lastly, we would like to thank Bob Diers for making sure Sue made it to her appointments, was well taken care of while she was still at home, and for the love you provided her over the years.

Visitation will be Friday, Nov. 15th from 1 to 3pm, service at Pier B Resort Ballroom, 800 W Railroad St., Duluth, MN.

Arrangements by Dougherty Funeral Home, 600 E 2nd St. Duluth, MN, (218) 727-3555.
