WHY WE'RE FUNDRAISING WITH THE JIMMY FUND WALK TO FIGHT CANCER

Thank you for visiting the Golfing for Gabi fundraising page to support cancer research and care at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and the Jimmy Fund.

In December 2017, Gabi was diagnosed with midline diffuse glioblastoma, an aggressive and largely incurable form of brain cancer. Despite her fearless bravery, and the efforts of countless medical teams, Gabi's fight ended in October 2018.

Following radiation treatment, Gabi was treated at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute from April to June 2018 as part of an experimental clinical trial that focused on a particular genetic mutation found in Gabi's tumor. While in Boston, Gabi was in the hands of some of the country's best doctors and most caring nurses, and was embraced by an entire community devoted to supporting pediatric cancer patients and finding cures for diseases like Gabi's.

70 years earlier, Dr. Sidney Farber began the first pediatric clinical trial against cancer in the basement of the Boston Children's Hospital, and since then, the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute has pioneered countless innovations and break-throughs and has led a larger global effort to combat cancer. However, many forms of pediatric cancer, including glioblastoma, differ from those in adults, and pediatric research funding overall remains significantly below that devoted to adults.

To meet this unmet need and accelerate research, all funds contributed to the GABI STRONG giving page will be dedicated to research and clinical trial activities conducted at Dana-Farber. In addition to supporting clinical trials such as those that Gabi participated in, funds will go towards research efforts that identify specific genetic mutations and corresponding therapeutic treatments that can improve and prolong the lives of children affiliated with this terrible disease. Please visit this site periodically for more information on specific activities that benefit from the GABI STRONG page, as well as other fundraising efforts to support pediatric brain cancer research.

Gabi never wavered in her fight against cancer, and we hope that her story can help inspire others to support the great team at Dana-Farber find a cure against glioblastoma. Please be generous and remember to be GABI STRONG!
