My story......
At 38 years old I was unexpectedly diagnosed with colon cancer. It came at me like a tornado... I went to the doctor as I was having some symptoms. The doctors told me, due to my age it was more than likely IBS but lets get a colonoscopy to make sure. Well 22 polyps later with 1 tumor the entire size of my colon, there was my diagnosis....
Treatment plan was supposed to be chemo and then surgery (does anything work out as planned though?). Due to a perforated intestine, I became full of infections, so chemo could not be done on me. After many stays at the hospital, it was decided we were going straight to surgery. Partial colon resection and 1 colostomy bag later, I was cancer free thanks to my amazing doctor and staff at Newton-Wellesley Hospital.
5 years later (on the day of this walk) I have had the colostomy reversed and remain cancer free. I still pull a lot of polyps (all benign) but there is always a chance this could come back which is why I continuously donate to this cause.
Anything will help, even if its $5.... your contribution can help so many people suffering and not as lucky as I was......
