I’m running the Boston Marathon for Dana-Farber because I want a chance to give back to the hospital and community that gave my family so much.
In 2006, my mom was diagnosed with stage three breast cancer. I was six years old, and my brothers were four and two. After months of chemotherapy, radiation, and several surgeries, my mom is still able to celebrate life with us each and every day – and she sure does love to celebrate.
For those of you who have the privilege of knowing my mom, you know she can throw a party for just about anything – and while she has always loved to do so, her diagnosis, and the cancer journey that followed, added a whole new perspective.
Years ago when my mom and I were driving home from my Sweet 16 birthday party, and reminiscing on the night we had, there came a moment when she choked up, and she candidly shared with me that there was a time when she didn’t know if she would ever see me turn sixteen.
Since that night, both my brothers have turned sixteen, and then some. My mom has been there for three high school graduations, one college graduation (and counting), and countless other milestones big and small. This would not have been possible without the doctors at Dana-Farber, the researchers in their labs, and donors, like you.
Not all families are as lucky as mine, and not all families will get to see their loved one cross milestones throughout their lives. This is why I’m running the Dana-Farber Marathon Challenge.
Please help me reach my fundraising goal of $15,000, so we can continue to give other families more reasons to celebrate.
