WHY I'M FUNDRAISING WITH DANA-FARBER TO DEFY CANCER AT THE 2024 BOSTON MARATHON

Dear friends, family, and supporters,

I am honored (truly, not the LinkedIn kind) to have been selected by Dana-Farber to run the 128th Boston Marathon in 2024 to raise money on behalf of cancer research. I chose to run for Dana-Farber because last year our family's world was rocked when my father was diagnosed with Stage 4 metastatic prostate cancer.

My dad is one of the kindest, compassionate, supportive and selfless people I know. Always a realist, he has taken the diagnosis in stride and has always remained himself throughout this journey. I'm so proud of how he's handled this process, as if anything his attitude has been my emotional rock.

Over the past year, my family and I have witnessed the phenomenal dedication, expertise, and care that his team has provided throughout the treatment journey. Their compassion and professionalism, coupled with the "spa-like" atmosphere (my dad's words) of the Chestnut Hill facility has left only positive reassurance he has been in the best of hands. We couldn't ask for more.

I want to be able to give back to ensure that other families that are fighting cancer are able to receive the same exceptional quality of care that my father received whether that support is through Dana-Farber directly, or indirectly through research conducted by the Claudia Adams Barr Program.

A world without cancer is the ultimate finish line. Realizing that vision will take time, money and innovation. I'm excited to be supporting this cause on behalf of the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and having the unique opportunity to run with greater purpose at the Boston Marathon in 2024.

Thank you for your support! Together, we're headed toward the ultimate finish line: a world without cancer.

A little about the DFMC and the research it supports:

One hundred percent of every dollar raised by the DFMC team supports the Claudia Adams Barr Program in Innovative Basic Cancer Research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.  To date, more than 300 innovative scientific investigations  have received critical funding thanks to the DFMC.

The Claudia Adams Barr Program in Innovative Basic Cancer Research at
Dana-Farber Cancer Institute was established in 1987 by Dana-Farber Trustees, Delores Barr Weaver and her husband, Wayne, in memory of her mother.

The program exemplifies the power of philanthropy in propelling completely
new lines of research, playing a pivotal role in the development of early
career scientists who work on a broad range of research investigations in
order to yield new clues about cancer. While the basic research spectrum is
wide, Barr Investigators are tied together by a common thread: They aim to
understand how cells work, multiply, interact with other cells, and die.

The program is critical for conducting basic research, which is often not eligible for federal funding until well along in proof of principle. It enables leading-edge, highly innovative research up to the point that it may be possible to attract government or private support. Barr Investigator awards help advance the professional development of Dana-Farber’s newly appointed Instructors and Assistant Professors who otherwise lack seed funding to test hypotheses and bring promising studies forward in completely new areas of research.
