We are Julia, Dennis and Mike, and we've come together as a team with a mission close to our hearts - to raise funds for the Dana Farber Marathon Challenge in loving memory of all of those we know who have battled cancer, especially our cherished friend, Dee Tomkiewicz.
Julia, a seasoned marathoner with 10 full marathons under her belt, embarked on her marathon journey back in 2005 with the Dana Farber Marathon Team in Boston. It was a life-changing experience that ignited her passion for running.
Julia's decision to lace up her running shoes once again with DFMC is deeply rooted in her friendship with Dee, a remarkable person who battled stage 4 ovarian cancer for 8 years. Dee's resilience, unwavering spirit, and the tireless efforts of the doctors, researchers, scientists, and staff at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute made it possible for her to live a vibrant life alongside her family and friends.
Dennis is no stranger to marathons. Completing an impressive 52 marathons (and counting), he's conquered 17 of them on foot and completed the last 35 while handcycling. His dedication to Dana Farber spans over 23 Boston Marathons, raising over $310,000 to support the fight against cancer.
Mike embarked on his running journey 17 years ago, finding solace in the miles after his father's passing. Initially a therapeutic outlet, it evolved into a tribute to his father's spirit. Introduced to the challenge by a friend, Mike conquered his first 5K in 2007, sparking a lasting passion. Now a seasoned runner, he's tackled everything from 5K races to a 50-mile trail ultramarathon.
We invite you to be a part of our journey and contribute to this incredible cause. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of countless individuals battling cancer. The Dana-Farber Marathon Challenge directs 100 percent of funds raised to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute's Claudia Adams Barr Program in Innovative Basic Cancer Research. The program enables scientists at the leading edge of discovery to achieve better cure rates and to enhance patients' quality of life.
Every mile we move and every dollar we raise is a tribute to Dee's memory and a symbol of hope for all those who continue to fight this relentless disease.
