On Sunday October 6 I will be walking in my 14th Jimmy Fund Walk. I will be joined again by my dear friend Liza Waters as we walk 26.2 miles along the Boston Marathon Course. I will once again be walking as part of the Ovarian Cancer Brigade team.
Our team raises funds for Dr. Ursula Matalonis, who is the Chief of Gynocologic Oncology at Dana Farber. Dr. Matalonis and her team continue to work towards the early detection and treatment of ovarian and other female related cancers. As most of you know, ovarian cancer took the life of my good friend Maggie O'Malley Luck almost 8 years ago and my friend Diane 14 years ago. As I write this my neighbor and friend Michelle (pictured above) is fighting hard after a re-occurence of her ovarian cancer has been found in her brain. Michelle has been extraordinarily positive since her diagnosis seven years ago, but this recent development has been challenging and my hope is that new treatments can buy her some time. She is currently in consultation with Dr. Matalonis.
I am setting my sights high again this year; I hope to raise $7500 for Dr. Matalonis and her team. I would appreciate any amount you can give and I am ever hopeful that the monies I raise each year will support so many women in their fight with ovarian and other female related cancers.
Thank you for supporting my Jimmy Fund Walk fundraising efforts. Together, we can defy cancer!
