Welcome to the Young Lung Cancer Fundraising Page - We are walking for the FIRST time to support our young patients diagnosed with lung cancer.
Lung cancer remains the leading cause of cancer death in the U.S., with recent statistics revealing increasing cases of lung cancer in individuals younger than 50 years of age, with 66% of these cases affecting women. This alarming rise has made lung cancer one of the top cancer deaths among women and younger adults.
These patients often face significant delays in diagnosis because they do not qualify for routine lung cancer screening, there are rarely red-flag symptoms in early-stage lung cancer, and the disease is generally not top-of-mind for young people without previous tobacco use and their treating providers. So, when young adults present with persistent respiratory symptoms or noticeable abnormalities on imaging exams, the disease has already advanced to late-stage cancer. They also face significant psychosocial challenges as cancer is diagnosed at a disruptive time of their life when they are caregivers to their children and parents. This is why we walk!
The funds raised during the walk will be used to support young patients with lung cancer, conduct research to improve their outcomes and understand their unique needs.
We are partnering with The Young Lung Cancer Initiative, which focuses on research and support specifically for the young population affected by lung cancer.
Together, we can raise awareness, support crucial research, and provide hope for a future where lung cancer no longer claims the lives of our young people.
Let’s make a difference and end lung cancer once and for all.
