Patriot's Day 1975, the weekend I was born, and Marathon Monday. Growing up in greater Boston gives you an instant connection to the Marathon. My family would frequently be found cheering on runners from Heartbreak Hill to Kenmore Square. The athletes seemed to be superhuman. I NEVER thought I could ever join their ranks. Until I could - 50 years later, it comes full circle as I train and plan to run the Boston Marathon on 4/21/2025.
Over the years and after running in many shorter races, "when will you do a marathon?" was always a frequent question. "Never” was usually the answer because I knew I wouldn’t qualify and if it couldn’t be in BOSTON, I wasn’t interested. Plus raising money seemed like an overwhelming task. After setting my sights to achieve this goal, I realized that participating in the Marathon was not just about me. This is also about raising money and awareness to help those that are fighting cancer.
And, yes, it ticks a box for me as well. I AM passionate about helping people in need. It's what I do every day, as a Speech- Language Pathologist in a rehab setting. I AM passionate about running. I am hoping you can support this passion and help me achieve a goal, 50 years in the making. I WAS BORN TO RUN THIS MARATHON! Being able to raise funds to help continue Cancer Research through the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute makes it even more meaningful.
This April, hundreds of Dana-Farber runners will take to the streets to participate in the 129th Boston Marathon®. The Dana-Farber Marathon Challenge team runs and raises funds with thousands of special people in mind. From Hopkinton to Boston, we carry thoughts of those people every step of the way.
One hundred percent of every dollar raised by the DFMC team supports the Claudia Adams Barr Program in Innovative Basic Cancer Research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. These funds are fueling some of today's most promising basic cancer research.
Thank you for your support! Together, we're headed toward the ultimate finish line: a world without cancer.
