As many of you know, I was diagnosed with stage 3 cervical cancer in May of 2021. After I finished treatment, I started running as a way to recover and to (hopefully!) stay healthy. I'm currently two years in remission and excited to use the miles I'm running to fundraise for desparately needed cancer research and treatments.
Dana Farber was one of the initial hospitals that I sought a second opinion from when I was diagnosed. It's a phenomenal institution, and one of the few hospitals in America to offer a special type of LDR brachytherapy for cervical cancer patients that is thought to be more effective on larger tumors. This type of treatment is expensive and requires specifically trained phsyicians and staff - and I'm living proof that it can be extremely effective. My daughter, who was 7 months at diagnosis, is now a rowdy 4 year old, and the years we have had together are priceless. Though I ultimately completed my treatment elsewhere, I have been grateful for the research and close collaboration from Dana-Farber that has positively impacted my life and many other cervical cancer patients.
Because of my experience, I chose Dana-Farber to partner with for the 129th Boston Marathon®. I'm proud to raise money for cancer research and happy to report that one hundred percent of every dollar raised by the DFMC team supports the Claudia Adams Barr Program in Innovative Basic Cancer Research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Our collective goal as a team this year is $8.5 million dollars, and I believe that together we can acheive that.
Thank you in advance for your support! I am looking forward to what we will accomplish!
