Running the 2017 Boston Marathon for Dana-Farber Cancer Institute!
Running the 2017 Boston Marathon for Dana-Farber Cancer Institute!

April 17, 2017 was one of the best days of my life. It was certainly my proudest achievement to date – completing my first marathon. With help from family, friends, colleagues, and even a few strangers, I raised more than $9,000 for Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Together, my 500+ teammates and I raised $5.9 million. I had the honor and privilege of running in memory of Tatyana Abrams, my In-Memory Partner. She passed away from cancer in 2015 at the age of 16. We never got to meet, but her family’s support and gratitude gave all those cold, long training runs so much more meaning. The high-fives I received along the 26.2-mile course – from friends, family, co-workers, and strangers – kept me going when all I wanted to do was crawl into bed. Everyone screaming “Go Dana-Farber!” and things like, “I’m alive because of you!” provided unbelievable boosts at the moments I needed them the most.

I also met some incredible people through the Dana-Farber team. I am so lucky to call some of these former and current teammates my friends, even some of my now-closest friends. Among them are cancer survivors, people who have lost family members to cancer (including young children, parents, spouses, and siblings), doctors and researchers working toward a cure, and people like me who are dedicated to doing everything we can to eradicate this horrible disease. Their encouragement helped me through a stress fracture to my tibia this past summer, and now I am back to running and feeling stronger than ever.

And because of all that, I’ve committed to running the Dana-Farber Marathon Challenge, which raises critical funds to benefit the Claudia Adams Barr Program in Innovative Basic Cancer Research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. On Monday, April 15, 2019, I will run my second Boston Marathon.

My fundraising goal for 2019 is $10,925 – which will bring my two-year fundraising total to $20,000. I am so grateful for your support in 2017 and hope that you will help me toward my lofty goal. Every dollar counts and no donation is too small.

From DFMC:

On April 15, hundreds of Dana-Farber runners will take to the streets to participate in the 123rd Boston Marathon®. The Dana-Farber Marathon Challenge team runs and raises funds with thousands of special people in mind. From Hopkinton to Boston, we carry thoughts of those people every step of the way.
One hundred percent of every dollar raised by the DFMC team supports the Claudia Adams Barr Program in Innovative Basic Cancer Research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. These funds are fueling some of today's most promising basic cancer research.
Thank you for your support! Together, we're headed toward the ultimate finish line: a world without cancer.
