I'm Caity. Wife. Mother. Daughter. Student. Widowed at 29 by osteosarcoma.
I married my college sweetheart, an amazing man named Ryan who could never sit still and always had to be contributing to goals larger than himself. He was an engineer for SpaceX and poured his heart into his work.
Days before his 27th birthday, I forced him to get his shoulder checked out (or stop complaining!) and an x-ray changed our lives. The whole top of his humerus was a tumor. We were in Los Angeles at the time but knew Dana Farber was the place we needed to be. He received a year of extensive treatment for his cancer in Boston but unfortunately, just 2 months after finishing what we hoped would put him into the 80% of people who survive this diagnosis, we learned that was not our reality.
In the next year and half, our amazing doctor and nurse practitioner from Dana Farber guided us from afar so that Ryan could return to his love, working on rockets in LA, for the remainder of his life. They went above and beyond the scope of their jobs and became friends.
Ryan passed away June 15th, 2017, 9 days after he met our premature son Charles.
Help me thank Dana Farber for the endless support and generosity through Ryan's diagnosis and death by raising money in his honor.
