I am participating in the 2021 Boston Marathon® Jimmy Fund Walk: Your Way presented by Hyundai, taking steps toward the ultimate finish line: a world without inflammatory breast cancer!
I was diagnosed in July 2019 with Inflammatory breast cancer (IBC) which then progressed to my brain in 2020. This is called metastatic breast cancer, and right now there is no cure. I believe the amazing team at Dana Farber saved my life this last January when I received my metastatic diagnosis, followed by a craniotomy and radiation. I have infusions every 21 days and my Inflammaotry Breast cancer team at Dana Farber decides my next steps in my treatment. Often, clinical trials do not included Inflammatory Breast Cancer or brain metastasis patients, so I am walking to raise funds for Inflammatory Breast Cancer (IBC) research. It might take me days to reach my walking goal, but I will walk to the end of the earth to help researchers find a cure for this terrible disease. My goal is $3000, to represent the third October in which I’ve had IBC.
Team goal: “IBC is a rare, fast-moving form of breast cancer, comprising about 2-5% of cases. It can be challenging to diagnose as often there is no mass or lump. This highly aggressive disease is difficult to detect at an early stage and 30% of patients are diagnosed upfront with stage IV disease.
Research on Inflammatory Breast Cancer is essential to advance the knowledge of this rare form of cancer in order to drive the discovery of new diagnostic tools and treatment options.
Thank You for your thoughtful generosity. 100% of funds raised through Team IBC will support IBC research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Thank you for supporting our team in the Jimmy Fund Walk. Together, we can conquer IBC!”
