In August 2019, Lew was diagnosed with the blood cancer myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS). His world-class care team at Dana Farber, led by Dr. Jacqueline Garcia and assisted by Mary Gerard, PA-C and a dedicated team of nurses and staff, helped him wage a valiant fight that gave him an extra year to enjoy life. He ran out of options after his disease flared into acute myeloid leukemia (AML) in August 2020, and he passed away peacefully on Sept. 14.
Much has been achieved in treating leukemia and blood cancers, but there is much to be done. Before Lew's death, he and Connee set up a family foundation to support clinical research at Dana-Farber. Your donation will directly support the lab of Dr. David Frank, who is researching treatments for MDS and AML, and developing the next generation of highly active and less toxic cancer therapies.
